Addiction and obsession were the themes of Mae Martin’s ‘Dope’. From her infatuation with Bette Midler at the age of six, via her passion for comedy after her first trip to a stand-up club aged 11, through to her time addicted to drugs and eventual stint in rehab. The subject matter may have been serious, but the tone of Martin’s show was always light, bouncy and reassuringly confident.
