Lily Savage was 'born' in Manila in 1977 but since this drag creation drew on some of the best traditions of British comedy it retained a bawdy freshness all through the Eighties and Nineties. O'Grady was able to come out of Lily's mascara-drenched mask in the Naughties and by this time had broken the mainstream hosting shows like Blankety Blank and he continued to reach millions with his own chat show on Channel 4.
