Lead by comedian Angela Barnes – with the help of many including Sameena Zehra and Pauline Eyre – the Home Safe Collective helps make sure that women (cis and trans), people identifying as non-binary and trans men, and members of vulnerable/at risk groups are able to get home safely, especially late at night. It was set up following the murder of Eurydice Dixon – a Melbourne comic who was attacked on her way home from a gig – earlier in the year, as a proactive measure to help those in vulnerable situations. With the Edinburgh Fringe being an expensive month for many comedians, an account with taxi firm CityCabs was set up – whose drivers are all police checked – that comics could use to take journeys, with the public able to donate to the fund. They raised over £5000, and the Panel Prize money – another £5000 – will go towards continuing the scheme for future Fringes.
